Farm-to-School

Sustʻāinable Molokai has been a Hawaiʻi Farm to School Hui steering committee member since 2011. The Hui envisions a holistic education system that renews our relationship to food, farming, and the environment while improving health and raising academic achievement.

We served as Island Coordinator for the Molokai Farm-to-School Network from 2012 until 2020. In this role, we provided resources to promote the 3 core elements of Farm to School in our island schools:

1

School Gardens

students engage in hands-on, experiential learning in a variety of subjects through gardening

2

Education

students participate in education activities related to agriculture, food, health, and nutrition

3

Sourcing

local foods are purchased, promoted, and served in the cafeteria, as a snack, or in classroom taste tests
